A special Nerding Out episode in which we explore a few of our favorite outtakes, bloopers and moments that didn’t make it onto the show. Dylan gets the giggles. Kelsey works on her Dylan impersonation and Dylan spills his beer. Everywhere. We discuss the difficulties with introducing texts too soon in a reader’s life and then geek out on Frankenstein and Dracula and fight over who should claim T.S. Eliot and Henry James. Bloopers, laughs, and fabulous bookish moments abound during this episode.
Our totally awesome intro was created by Mike Fraedrich. You can find more from Mike at mikefraedrich.com & brighttowers.com. The first one points to his Twitter, the second his music. Thanks, Mike!!

I don’t remember if it was this episode or not, but i remember Dylan saying that every time he picks up a Murakami book he’s given exactly what he needed. I’m a huge Murakami fan myself and feel similarly to Dylan, except when it came to the book After Dark. I was just wondering if Dylan read After Dark and thought it was as amazing as the rest of Murakami’s work.

Murakami was just recommended to me by my summer mentor as a writer whose work would be relevant to what I’m trying to do. Dylan and Robert, where should I start!
Robert Tomoguchi
Kelsey, I started with The Wind Up Bird Chronicle. I think that was a great place to start!

Thank you! Dylan is lame and still hasn’t answered me. Ordering that now!

Aha, I’ve finally responded!
Yes, I absolutely loved it!! Almost every single Murakami I’ve ever read is exactly what I need at that particular moment in time. I don’t think there’s been a single one that hasn’t been pure unadulterated Murakami goodness. I think my particular favorites are Dance, Dance, Dance and Kafka on the Shore.
I’m also incredibly excited for his new book, coming out this fall, which is supposedly an homage to Gatsby…

Is that Killing Comandatore? I preordered it but i haven’t started it yet.
